Hey there!
Welcome to the True Balance Blog! This is a wonderful space where we explore topics around wellness and mindfulness. Our mission? To connect with YOU—our wonderful clients and readers.
We are so excited to hear your thoughts, suggestions, and questions! For our first topic, we'll dive into a question that I often get from clients, and rightfully so: it's a good one!
So, what’s Breathwork, and how’s it different from just breathing?
Breathing is completely natural, just like your heartbeat or digestion. It’s an essential part of our autonomic nervous system. But here’s the exciting part: we can actually take control of our breath!
That’s what sets “Breathwork” apart from regular breathing.

Breathwork means we’re consciously changing how we breathe. You might be wondering: Why does it matter? What benefits can we gain from it?
Your breath is closely linked to your Nervous System. When we’re relaxed, our breathing slows down to a gentle, steady rhythm. But when stress or anxiety arises, our breath often becomes quick and shallow—or even pauses! Unfortunately, our fast-paced lives can keep us stuck in that stressed-out state.
But here’s the good news: since we can control our breath, we can also positively influence our Nervous System.
By practicing slow, deep breathing, we can cultivate a profound sense of calm and balance.
Another wonderful aspect of Breathwork is how it enhances our awareness. It encourages us to be more mindful of our breath, thoughts, and feelings. With mindful breathing, we can connect our mind and body and encourage positive changes.
In essence: Breathwork is the intentional, conscious use of our breath to enhance our physical, mental, emotional, and energetic states.
Breathwork isn’t just one technique; it encompasses various methods, all aimed at intentionally changing:
- Rhythm (slow, fast, paused)
- Depth (shallow vs. full)
- Location (belly, ribs, chest)
- Pattern (nasal, mouth, circular, counted)
One important lesson I’ve learned in life is that there’s no one-size-fits-all solution, and we all need tools to guide us along the way. Breathwork is one of those incredible tools, and it’s truly powerful!
So, what makes it so special?
- It’s super easy to do – you can seamlessly incorporate it into your life.
- It’s accessible – anytime, anywhere!
- It’s free – yes, you heard that right!!!

Now, you might be asking: how often and how much should I practice "Breathwork" to see some real changes?
With Breathwork, you’re not just “thinking” your way to calm; you’re actually signaling to your body that it’s safe on a physiological level. Just a few minutes of focused breathing can create a significant impact.
Even though "Breathwork" might sound like a performance, that’s not the case.
You don’t have to aim for perfection in your breathing. There’s no need to force anything. And absolutely no prior experience required!
Breathwork meets you exactly where you are – whether you’re feeling tired, stressed, curious, overwhelmed, or simply want to be more present.
Breathwork can be energizing or calming. It can bring clarity or assist you in releasing emotions.
All these experiences offer valuable insights, and they’re all perfectly valid.
Breathwork isn’t about controlling your breath; it’s about truly listening to it – and learning how to work with it instead of against it.
You’re already breathing – so why not do it with awareness, choice, and intention? That’s what changes everything!
If this resonates with you, I’d love for you to join us on Wednesdays at 5 PM for my "Breathe Easy" class at the True Balance Center for Breath and Bodywork. It’s FREE! Together, we’ll explore simple practices, feel their effects, and build community.
Until next time -
Breathe deeply, live vibrantly!
